Live Rates, Honest Math
Mid-market rate is the midpoint between global buy and sell prices — the number Google shows and economists quote. Everything you actually pay builds on it: banks add a spread, cards add fees, kiosks add both. This converter shows the clean mid-market figure so you can judge any quote against reality.
Rates come from the European Central Bank via the free Frankfurter API — updated once daily, no key, no signup, and your amounts never leave the browser. Planning a trip? Convert your budget here, then mentally add 3–5% for card spreads. Comparing job offers abroad? Run both salaries through the paycheck calculator for true take-home in each country.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the mid-market exchange rate?
The midpoint between buy and sell prices on global currency markets — the “real” rate you see on Google or XE. Banks and card networks add a spread (often 2–5%) on top, so the rate you receive when spending abroad is usually worse than the mid-market rate shown here.
How often do the rates update?
Once per business day, around 16:00 CET, when the European Central Bank publishes its reference rates. The rate date is shown next to the live badge so you always know how fresh the numbers are.
What is 1 USD in EUR today?
It moves daily with the market — check the converter above for the exact live figure. The tool shows the current rate, the inverse, and the rate date, plus popular USD pairs at a glance.
Why is the rate my bank gives me different?
Banks, card networks, and exchange kiosks build their profit into the rate (the spread) and often add fixed fees. Airport and hotel kiosks are the worst — sometimes 8–12% off mid-market. For large transfers, compare specialist services that quote close to mid-market.
Which currencies are supported?
The 30 currencies with ECB reference rates: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CHF, CAD, AUD, CNY, INR, BRL, and 20 more. Crypto is not covered — ECB rates do not include it.
Is this currency converter free?
Yes, 100% free with no signup and no limits. Rates come from the free Frankfurter API (ECB data) — nothing is uploaded, and your conversion amounts never leave your browser.
Can I use this to budget a trip?
Yes — convert your daily budget at the live mid-market rate, then add 3–5% mentally for card spreads and ATM fees. For exact card costs, check your card issuer's foreign transaction fee (many US cards charge 0–3%).
How do I get the best exchange rate?
Avoid airport and hotel kiosks, decline “dynamic currency conversion” at checkout (always pay in the local currency), use a no-foreign-fee card, and for large amounts compare specialist transfer services against your bank's quote.
Is my conversion data private?
Completely. The tool fetches public rate data and computes locally in your browser — amounts, currencies, and history are never uploaded, stored, or tracked.
Where can I see more finance tools?
The finance hub covers paycheck take-home for all 50 states, mortgage payments, loan EMIs, and investment growth — all with the same private in-browser math.
