BMI Calculator
Your body mass index is weight ÷ height² — 18.5–24.9 is the healthy adult range. See yours in seconds.
Your measurements
WHO adult cutoffs (18.5 / 25 / 30). BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat and does not apply to children, teens, pregnancy, or athletes — treat it as a screening number, not a diagnosis.

What Your BMI Actually Means
BMI (body mass index) compresses height and weight into one screening number so doctors and researchers can compare populations. It was never designed to diagnose individuals — it cannot see muscle, bone density, or where fat sits. Use it the way it was meant: a cheap flag that says look closer, not a final grade on your health.
Where it shines is tracking: same person, same scale, falling BMI over months means real change regardless of the starting band. Where it fails is the muscular, the very tall or short, older adults losing muscle, and everyone under 20. If your result surprises you, the calorie calculator turns the number into a daily plan instead of a worry.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is BMI calculated?
Weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared (kg/m²). In US units: 703 × weight in pounds ÷ height in inches squared. A 5′10″, 180-lb adult: 703 × 180 ÷ 4900 ≈ 25.8.
What is a healthy BMI?
WHO adult cutoffs: below 18.5 underweight, 18.5–24.9 healthy, 25–29.9 overweight, 30+ obesity. The calculator above shows your personal healthy weight range for your exact height.
Is BMI different for men and women?
The formula and cutoffs are the same — BMI uses only height and weight. Body composition differs on average, which is one reason BMI is a screening tool: two people with BMI 26 can carry very different amounts of muscle and fat.
Why is my BMI high if I am muscular?
Muscle is denser than fat, so lifters and athletes routinely land in overweight or obese bands while lean. If you train heavily, waist circumference, progress photos, and strength trends tell you more than BMI.
Does BMI work for teens, kids, or pregnancy?
No — children and teens need age-and-sex percentile charts, and pregnancy changes everything. This calculator uses adult WHO cutoffs only; talk to a clinician for those cases.
How much weight do I need to lose to reach a healthy BMI?
Move the weight slider until the marker enters the green band — the healthy-range card shows the exact target weight for your height. Sustainable loss is typically 1–2 lbs per week; pair the target with a daily calorie budget from the calorie calculator.
Is my weight data private here?
Completely. All math runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
What should I do after checking my BMI?
Use it as a starting flag, not a verdict. If overweight or obese, the next step is a calorie target — the calorie calculator builds one from your stats — plus activity you can sustain. If healthy, recheck occasionally.
