Frequently Asked Questions

How do I remove AI metadata from an image for free?

Drop the image in the tool above, check the detected AI tags badge, click Remove AI metadata and download the cleaned copy. Canvas re-encoding drops C2PA JUMBF, XMP, EXIF Software and PNG prompt chunks in seconds — 100% in browser, no signup.

What AI metadata hides in Midjourney, DALL-E and Stable Diffusion images?

Midjourney and DALL-E exports often carry XMP CreatorTool, generator flags and C2PA Content Credentials. Stable Diffusion PNGs embed full prompts, negative prompts, sampler, steps and model hash in tEXt parameters chunks. JPEGs can carry the same in XMP APP1 and comment segments.

What is C2PA Content Credentials and can it be removed?

C2PA is a signed manifest (JUMBF box) recording AI generation, edits and provenance. This tool strips the C2PA container from the file copy so viewers and simple checkers no longer see AI tags. Note: cryptographic provenance registries may retain records externally — removal affects the file, not third-party databases.

Does removing metadata affect image quality?

No visible change. Pixels are re-encoded at 92% quality with identical dimensions — only container metadata is dropped. File size usually shrinks slightly because manifests, thumbnails and prompt blocks are removed.

Does this remove invisible AI watermarks like SynthID?

No. This removes container metadata only — C2PA, XMP, EXIF, IPTC and PNG text chunks. Invisible pixel watermarks embedded in image data survive re-encoding. Do not use this to misrepresent AI content where disclosure is legally required.

Is it safe and private to clean AI images online?

Yes when cleaning is local. FirstClickTools processes images entirely in your browser — files never upload, are never stored or used for ads. Safe for client work, portfolios and pre-publication copies.

Will cleaned images pass AI detectors?

They remove metadata signals detectors read first, but text and pixel classifiers may still flag AI style. This tool is for privacy and clean files — not for evading academic, platform or legal AI-disclosure rules.

Which formats are supported?

JPG, PNG and WebP today — the formats carrying C2PA, XMP and SD prompt chunks. Convert HEIC to JPG first, then strip. iPhone Safari, Android Chrome and desktop all supported, batch up to 20.
